Three to Tango brings to life the great works by the legendary Argentinian Astor Piazzolla. The Trio is formed by passionate musicians who love tango music and its rich and complex history. Their repertoire also includes traditional tangos by Gardel, Rodriguez and Firpo.

 

Jose Zalba Smith was born in 1984, in Havana, Cuba, Jose studied flute and piano at the Alejandro G. Caturla and later at Amadeo Roldan Conservatory. After auditioning in London, he was offered places at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the latter offered a full scholarship for the Bachelor of Music Degree which he accepted and commenced in 2003. Jose was accepted as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain (2006-2007), as an extra player for the National Welsh Opera (2007-present), member of the Southbank Sinfonia (2009), the London Philharmonic Orchestra as a Foyle Future First Scheme member and he is currently taking a Sub-Principal trial with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Jose is a Concordia Foundation Artist and supports the charity work of St Stephen’s Volunteers. Jose has performed with the tango band - El Ultimo Tango in the CBSO Centre in Birmingham and at The Pumphouse in Aldeburgh, Suffolk and is founder of the trio Three to Tango.

 

Anna Menzies comes from Newcastle and studied at Chetham’s School of Music and the Guildhall School.  She has appeared across the UK and Europe as soloist and chamber musician, in performances ranging from concerto appearances to playing with The Who at the Royal Albert Hall. Also a composer, Anna was recently selected to have her chamber piece performed by the London Chamber Orchestra at St John’s Smith Square. She is currently finishing her Masters degree at the Royal Northern College of Music, where she is grateful for the support of the Arts and Humanities Research Council and a Richard Newitt Award.

 

Leanne Singh-Levett is an accomplished chamber musician, song accompanist and vocal coach based in London. She is a founding member of the Leonora Piano Trio, and has a duo partnership with flautist José Zalba Smith. Leanne has performed at the Royal Festival Hall and Purcell Roomat London's South Bank Centre, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James's Piccadilly, the V&A, the National Gallery and Brighton's Chapel Royal. 

Leanne studied as a postgraduate at the Royal College of Music, London, where her teachers were Andrew Ball and Roger Vignolesfor Piano Accompaniment, and Margaret Kingsley and Nicholas Sears for Voice. Throughout her time at the RCM, Leanne was a scholar supported by a Gordon Calway Stone Memorial Award. Following Leanne's time at RCM, she participated in the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Foyle Future Firsts apprenticeship programme, enabling her to study orchestral piano playing with Catherine Edwards. In 2009, Leanne participated in the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programmein Aldeburgh, working on the Lieder of Robert Schumann in masterclasses with Malcolm Martineau. Plans for 2011 include concerts by the Leonora Piano Trio in the Brighton Fringe Festival and atSt James’s Piccadilly, as well as a performance of the two-piano arrangement of Carmina Burana.
